The secret to a good marriage, and a good life (at least for horse people)

Ladies: Although your horse will probably always be your first love, eventually a man of the human variety will catch your eye. The trick to be truly happy with this man, is to find one who either truly likes horses, or is willing to learn about them. Let’s face it, there is NOTHING sexier than a cowboy! And I’m not talking about the kind of “cowboy” in that photo up there… I’m talking about a REAL cowboy like my best friend Jared.

image

Although he has never been around new foals, he was willing to help me with Wingnut. Even risked being in the stall with Momma! He may not be the tall, dark, and handsome cowboy from the movies, but he is strong, smart, and willing to listen while I teach him the ropes. That’s what a real cowboy is all about!

He is soo good with horses(: the real American Cowboy! AND he’s a natural rider! My lessons are helping though! I’ll have videos and pics of him riding soon! My perfect student(:

Party Ponies

I just got home from my new favorite job at Pony Parties LLC! If you live in Daviess County, Kentucky, and want a pony party for your kid, than look no farther than Party Ponies! We do parties on and off site! We also do riding lessons there! And I exercise all their horses, so you know they’re going to behave! We do lessons for Adults and Children! Anyone who wants to learn!

Our very handsome Tanto who did fabulous while I was walking him in a party today! He had to deal with kids running, balloons, a baloon even popped right next to him and he didn’t even blink!

Photogenic Drover

“Baby” Drover is just so absolutely gorgeous and photogenic! Ohh I just love this horse(: can’t wait till it dries up so can ride him! He’s SUCH a good boy! I hope everyone is having a fantastic Saturday!

The Trick to Talking to Horse People

One thing you have to remember about horse people: they are always right. Always. You could have a room full of them, and each have their own way of doing something, and they can all be right. Everyone’s training method is a little bit different because what may have worked for one person may not have worked for another. We work with horses, a living animal, no two of them are the same. Each horse has their own personality, their own experiences, and learn at their own rate, so the method to training each horse will be a little different. Breed, age, and intended discipline all play a role in it too. For example, how much I canter a 2 year old Rocky Mountain will be a completely different amount to how much I would canter a 5 year old Thoroughbred. Or even if I had two horses of the same age, and one was an Arab and one was a Rocky, I wouldn’t do the same work out with them because in general Rockies aren’t built for the kind of work Arabs are. Sure, there are those exceptions where a Rocky makes a fantastic endurance horse, but that takes a special horse with special training. Just like their horses, all trainers have been through different experiences, and may train their horse in different ways, so as long as it works for that horse, the trainer will always be right.

Trouble in Paradise

My adorable 4 day old foal is sick! The vet believes he is allergic to his momma’s milk so he has had to have a feeding tube put in, and we are feeding him every hour through that. Also, Momma Shirock has an abscess in her hoof! They’ve both just had a pretty rough week! /: Please pray for them! We need to get these guys healthy!

Here he is at 2 days old in his Make shift dress because the baby blanket we have doesn’t fit!

Here he is yesterday at 3 days old. He needed help up, but he was feeling pretty good!

He was even nursing fine yesterday! We don’t know what’s going on with him now /:

Baby Number 1!

image

At 9ish this morning, Shirock decided to give us a healthy colt! This picture was taken when he was about 11 hours old, when I FINALLY got to see him for myself! Ohh isn’t he just the cutest?? He is definitely a buckskin, and possibly a silver buckskin, but we won’t know for sure until he loses his baby coat. I just can’t get over how cute he is! He has the oddest markings though! He has barring, which looks like tiger stripes on his front shoulder, and half of a dorsal stripe starting from the middle of his back to his tail! Weird huh? Right now, he is baby no name, and will remain that way until my trainer’s daughter gets home, but I’m rooting for the name Wingnut(: Now doesn’t that just put a smile on your face? Wingnut. Say it. Wingnut. Now repeat until you smile! Oh, and this little colt is a full brother to “my baby” Drover! So I know he’s going to be a good boy! Now enjoy some more baby pictures(: trust me, there will be more!

Here’s him nursing at 11 hours old, he’s soo cute!

Now here’s exactly what he looked like the first time I saw him!

Here’s the picture I recieved at 9 am this morning during Spanish class! Yes, I realize I shouldn’t have been texting… but can you blame me?(:

Here he is in the daylight! I think this was at a couple of hours old!

White horses do not exist!

There is no such thing as a white horse. Now, I know some of y’all are going “but I’ve seen a ton of white horses”. Before you start a hate comment, let me explain. Genetically, there is no such thing as a white horse. There are only two base colors for a horse, black and red. There are four different genes that will put white on a horse: Sabino, tabiano, overo, and tovero. All of these genes will put white spots on a horse, making it a pinto color. If a horse has two copies of the overo gene, it is referred to as a lethal white, and will die within a couple days of it’s birth. That being said, there are lots of variations that will make a horse appear white. Most of the “white” horses you’ve seen were probably a gray horse that had faded into a white. My baby Patrick was an example of this, when he was born, he was grayish, and as he grew up he turned more and more white. Eventually, Patrick will be completely white. Another reason a horse could appear white is that he is a cremello or perlino. These are horses with two copies of the creme gene which dilutes their color so much that is appears an off white color. There is no such thing as an albino horse. The appaloosa gene will also do some really strange things to the color making some horses appear white. So all of those “white” Arabians you have seen are really not. Weird right?Â
